2002 PHOTO ALBUM
Signing at the Toll House Bookshop in
Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.
Staff here believe that I used their shop as the model for Eden
Valley Books in BLOOD ON THE TONGUE. Apparently, it's the
doorbell that gives it away...

Here I'm helpfully explaining the business
of crime writing to an attentive Paul
Johnston, Julian Earwaker, Kathleen Becker
and Peter Robinson, during the 2002
Dead on Deansgate festival in Manchester.

Hear no evil, see no evil... and don't leave
any of that red wine! A scary line-up at the
Muswell Hill Bookshop in London - Stephen Booth, Mark Billingham, John Harvey and
Rob Ryan. Photo courtesy of Barbara Franchi, reviewingtheevidence.com.

At Ottakar's bookstore in Cirencester,
regaling
readers with my hilarious Yorkshire Ripper
anecdote. Fellow author Natasha Cooper
isn't quite sure whether to make a run for it.

But I can be serious for a moment. This
year's moment was captured on film by
my favourite stalker, Ali Karim.
USA WEST COAST TOUR, MARCH 2002

Here I am, ready to enjoy some of
that Californian sun. Unfortunately,
I was in Portland, Oregon, at the time.

Celebrating with Peggy Check, the
winning
bidder in the charity auction at Left Coast Crime.
Peggy bid an incredibly generous $575 to be a
character in my next novel. She also won the
stuffed black dog, which was probably the clincher.

With two great booksellers - Barry and
Mary at Book 'em Mysteries in Pasadena.

And a wonderful welcome from Ed Kaufmann at the
M is for Mystery bookstore in San Mateo, California.

Who wrote this stuff? Caught in the act of
telling an appallingly bad joke while moderating
the 'Political Correctness'
panel at Left Coast Crime - much to the horror of panelists Larry
Karp, John
Shannon and Gary Phillips. Mary Daheim is off the picture, so her reaction is
mercifully unrecorded.

Despite being located in the music
section for my appearance at Borders
in Portland, I still refused to sing.

Has he gone yet? Diane Kudisch, owner of
the San Francisco Mystery Bookstore, seems
to be completely overwhelmed by my visit.

The first public appearance of Booth's
Sleuths certainly
grabbed the attention of
attendees at the Left Coast Crime
convention in Portland.

Meeting up with a fan, Sue Hartigan, of
internet
group All About Murder. Sue drove two hours from
her home near Los Angeles to see me (or rather,
her very understanding husband did).
