Wherever there's an author promoting a book, there's also a camera....
'Love is Murder' conference, Chicago, USA

In
February
2005
I
was
thrilled
to
be
International
Guest
of
Honour
at
the
annual
LOVE
IS
MURDER
conference
in
Chicago.
I'm
pictured
here
with
Irish-American
author
Pat
Mullan
and
conference
founder
Evelyn
Hopkins. Wait
a
minute...
empty
glasses?
Looks
like
it
was
someone's
turn
to
buy
a
drink.

At
LOVE
IS
MURDER
with
authors
Moira
Maus
(aka
M.G.
Kincaid)
and
Pat
Mullan,
and
Annie
Chernow.

With
fellow
guest
of
honour
Anne
Perry.
The
Americans
were
surprised
to
meet
two
teetotal
Brits.
For
some
reason,
we've
developed
a
reputation
for
hanging
out
in
the
bar
until
the
small
hours.
I
don't
know
how
that
happened...

Moira
Maus
trying
to
wake
me
up
with
a
time-honoured
gesture.
Looking
on
is
Barbara
D'Amato.
If
I
remember
rightly,
the
panel
was
about
the
difference
between
mysteries
in
the
USA
and
the
UK
-
hence
the
British
police
helmets.
I
guess
I
was
just
taking
a
power
nap.

At LIM with readers Suzanne Rorhus and Maryann Mercer.

I
was
one
of
the
speakers
at
a
literary
luncheon
in
Cleethorpes,
Lincolnshire,
where
I
shared
the
stage
with
a
politician
for
the
first
time
in
my
life.
Luckily,
it
was
one
of
the
few
politicians
I
admire
-
Claire
Short,
who
resigned
from
the
government
over
the
Iraq
War.
Below,
that's
me
in
full
flow
at
Cleethorpes
Winter
Gardens.

Greeted
by
members
of
internet
group
4MysteryAddicts
at
the
Melbourne
Writers'
Festival
during
my
trip
to
Australia
in
August
2005.
One
of
these
ladies
is
apparently
my
'registered
stalker'.
While
at
the
festival,
I
did
a
couple
of
joint
events
with
John
Harvey
and
Alexander
McCall
Smith,
billed
as
'three
UK
crime
novelists'.
Sandy
confessed
that
he
felt
a
bit
of
a
fraud,
because
"nothing
of
a
nefarious
happens
in
my
books"
